Balford Ukraine LLC publishes the response of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine to the company’s inquiries regarding the feasibility of constructing small hydropower plants (letters from LLC BALFORD UKRAINE dated 16.12.2024 No. 0.1, 24.12.2024 No. 0.2, and 17.01.2025 No. 0.3).

The Ministry confirms that support for the development of renewable energy is an element of Ukraine’s state policy. In particular, the deployment of small hydropower is provided for by the “Strategy for the Development of Distributed Generation until 2035,” approved by Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Order No. 713-r of 18 July 2024.

The letter states that the small hydropower projects, a brief description of which was provided in the inquiries of LLC BALFORD UKRAINE, fall within the goals of state policy and the provisions of the said Strategy. Given the acute shortage of generating capacity, including highly flexible capacity, such generation may be in demand on the ancillary services market for participation in frequency and power regulation of Ukraine’s IPS.
